May 2010 A Note from the Pastor Spending quiet time is important for my spiritual renewal. Last month I was able to attend a Clergy Retreat sponsored by the Spirituality Network at St. Mary of the Springs Martin de Porres Center in Columbus. They called it “A Day of Renewal for People in Ministry”, and it was well named. About twelve of us from various denominations had community prayer, discussion, scripture reading, lunch and individual meditation time. The high-light for me was to spend an hour and fifteen minutes in the outdoor garden area by myself meditating, and journaling. I love doing this. It is strange that I need to be out of my usual space of church and home in order to spend that length of time waiting before God, but that’s the way it is. In that time of journaling, I did my usual doodling and writing. I am no artist by any stretch of the imagination, but I love to doodle. It helps me get in touch with the Spirit and listen. For me, this discipline gives peace and deep joy. I write whatever comes to mind, sometimes just words or phrases. I chose to share this with session, including my crazy doodle-pictures, even though the Deacon at Session happened to be an artist. I remembered that only after I had shown them my “work”. It’s a risk to share our inner thoughts, but by doing so, we can receive a blessing and the hearers get a deeper glimpse into the “real” you. Truly, love does grow here. So, thank you, all of you, for being a part of “Our Story Continues” in worship. And may the month of May be filled with beauty and surprises from God as you continue living out and adding chapters to your story. A reminder: Blessing of Peace & Joy,
